Today, I’ve decided that if I’m going to finally earn the right to be called “a writer,” I must get much more serious about becoming a writer.
It’s not that I can’t write. I’ve written all kinds of things all my life; papers, dissertations, government grants, business plans, corporate communications and brochures, marketing material, massive complaint letters, “by-lined” financial newspaper articles, TV scripts for financial advisory spots, song lyrics and all kinds of other things, but up until now I can’t say that any of its been fun (except the song lyrics, of course).
My personal writings have been quite hidden. Most of them remain in notebooks and scraps of paper in drawers, boxes and files. I suppose everybody keeps jottings and journals, but you see, I’ve had a very different sort of life – the kind of complex life that is ripe for story. Something I can draw on I hope.
But now, it’s time to change. I’ve been getting ready. I’ve been studying about writing, planning, thinking, writing and writing even more. I’ve had others critique my writings, but I still have a long way to go before I can call myself a “writer” let alone an “author”.
It’s time to dust off all those boxes, files and notebooks and unearth the jottings that were and still are something important to me and little insights with a twist that perhaps might be interesting to you.
This blog will include my writings, but mostly it will be about my process to get, bit by bit, towards writing AND FINISHING a novel – of getting from where I am now to where I hope to be in the foreseeable future. How long will it take? “They” say it could take a year or longer. I hope not as long as that.
So, if you want to come along on an adventure, please do. Who knows? Something interesting is bound to happen along the way.
Congratulations, you’ve done it. Have started following you.
I look forward to reading more…..
